About Me!!!
Adrian Townsend has always enjoyed writing and for many years he incorporated this into his job as a primary school teacher, mostly writing stories and plays for children to perform.
In 1994 the production of his first play for adults, ‘Gathering at Garsington’ was well reviewed.
This made Adrian seriously consider writing full time and he followed up with another play ‘Fit To Rule,’ which was produced and performed two years later. Finally, in 1998 after ten years as a headteacher he realized that writing held more attractions than ‘Ofsted’, ‘SATs’ and ‘Educational Targets’ so he decided to write full time.
In 1999 Adrian was commissioned to compose an Opera for adults and school children, ‘The Bell of Gaerse Dun’, which was performed in May 2000 as part of local millennium celebrations.
His first book for children ‘Gran’s Gang’, written in 1999, was published in July 2000.
It proved to be a great success and it is currently in its sixth reprint. ‘Gran’s Gang’ was followed by ‘Naughty Lessons’ and ‘Powerful Eyes’.
‘Gran’s Gang Go To Spain’ appeared in 2002.
His latest book ‘Teachers’ Tales’ was completed and published last year.
Adrian is currently working on a new ‘Gran’s Gang’ story, a collection of poetry and a light-hearted adult book ‘A Bloke’s Guide To Teaching’.
His new play ‘Miss Bower’s Cupboard’ is in the production stage and will be beginning rehearsals soon for performances next March.
Adrian believes that everyone should be encouraged to write, make music and play games. He lives in Oxford, is married and has two daughters.
